Keep Kensal Green Campaign
The Keep Kensal Green campaign was launched in January 2023 by local residents to
protest about environmental and public health concerns posed by Ballymore’s "Project
Flourish", a large scale development of up to 31 storey tower blocks on former Kensal
gasworks site, at Sainsbury's Ladbroke Grove. The application was approved by Kensington
and Chelsea Planning department in November 2025 despite 10,000 petition signatures,
1800 objections and oral representations about loss of sunlight, lack of infrastructure,
reduced social housing, transport chaos, contamination and environmental pollution.

Request for Mayor of London
Today Keep Kensal Green represent a wide coalition of Residents' Associations and Community Groups from Brent, North Kensington and Westminster - the three boroughs impacted by this development. Local councillors from Brent and Westminster and Joe Powell, MP for Kensington have joined their request for the Mayor of London to intervene and call in Project Flourish for a public inquiry.
Why this Issue Matters
The issue of toxic gasworks was highlighted by a report in the Guardian in 2021, when Dr Ian Mudway of Imperial College set up clinical trials to investigate health impacts on residents in Southall. Similar reports followed from gasworks sites in Lea Bridge, Mitcham, Bath, Liverpool and Devon.
Crowdjustice Fundraising Appeal for Legal Action
Even if the Mayor of London rejects Project Flourish, it is highly likely that Ballynore will appeal this decision and the only way to ensure proper safeguards are put in place to protect local residents and prevent environmental pollution is by taking legal action and challenging
Kensington and Chelsea’s decision to approve Project Flourish in the High Court. Keep Kensal Green need to raise £20,000 by deadline April 23rd to pay for legal fees.
